Integrated position sensor at an actuator cylinder

An actuator cylinder is provided with a magnetic position sensor which operates contactlessly and is completely integrated in the cylinder. This sensor comprises a periodic magnetisation pattern (30) carried by the piston rod (28) itself and a plurality of magnetic-field detectors (32, 34) which are arranged in the cylinder cover at a small distance from the piston rod surface. The fine position of the piston rod (28) within one period of the magnetisation pattern (30) is determined by electrical interpolation from the output signals of the various magnetic-field detectors (32, 34).
