PURPOSE:To enable automatic judgement on whether an envelope is present by arranging a paper detection sensor at the side end of a paper supply path and inward therefrom to detect the presence of a corner-cut in a printer which permits the printing of an envelope as well. CONSTITUTION:Normally, as a paper 19 is inserted into a printer, a paper detection sensor 4 detects the front end side 22 thereof while reading an identifying mark 21 printed on the back thereof to perform the control of the printing position on the paper 19 and the selection of printing data. On the other hand, when an envelope 20 is inserted, the sensor 4 detects a paper 20 depending on the position of a corner-cut 25 of a flap 23 and the printing position is controlled using the detection timing of the sensor 5 as reference. The changing of the control is done by comparing the difference between detection timings of both the sensors 4 and 5 separated at a specified distance with the theoretical value to determine the presence of the corner-cut, namely, whether an envelope is present. |
