PURPOSE:To obtain the titled salt-forming black dye, having excellent solubility in various organic solvents, and giving an ink suitable for ball-point pen, felt pen, etc., by reacting a specific tetrakisazo dye with an amine. CONSTITUTION:The objective dye of formula VI (D is residue of the dye of formula I ; [A]<+> is aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or quaternary ammonium ion; m is 1-n; n is total number of sulfonic acid group and carboxyl group) can be prepared by reacting the tetrakisazo dye of formula I [Q is group of formula II- IV, etc.; B is formula V (p is 0 or 1; r is 0-2; M is H, Na, K, Li or NH4); E1 and E2 are group of formula V, (Y1)p (Y1 is COOM), etc.] with an aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic amine or a quaternary ammonium salt.
