The invention relates to a process for the preparation of nickel complex dyes, which is characterised in that compounds of the formula I <IMAGE> are reacted with nickel-donating compounds, X in this case is the completion for a ring system and the ring A can in this case be substituted or alternatively carry a fused ring. Depending on the structure, the compounds according to the invention are very highly suitable for the dyeing of textile fibres, for example of blended polyester and cotton fabrics, and also of leather and plastics.
