摘要 PURPOSE:Optical fiber for infrared rays having improved transmission of infrared rays, and low toxicity, obtained by using chalcogenide glass Ge-Sb-Se containing Ge, Sb, and Se in a specific ratio as a core and as a clad. CONSTITUTION:In the three component phase diagram of chalcogenide glass Ge- Sb-Se shown in mol%, chalcogenide glass Ge-Sb-Se having a composition in a range enclosed by straight lines obtained by connecting successively the point A (3Ge, 10Sb, 87Se), the point B (30Ge, 10Sb, 60Se), the point C (30Ge, 15Sb, 55Se), the point E (15Ge, 30Sb, 55Se), and the point F (3Ge, 30Sb, 67Se) in the order of A, B, C, E, F, and A is prepared. The glass is used as a material for a core and a clad to give a rod, which is spun by pressure crucible method, to give the desired optical fiber for infrared rays.
