PURPOSE:To prevent a printing position from being staggered and enhance operating efficiency in replacing a printing ribbon or the like, by a method wherein the position of a carriage at the moment an opening action of a cover is detected by a detecting circuit is stored into a current-position memory, and thereafter the carriage is moved to a substantially central position previously stored in a stop position memory. CONSTITUTION:When it is detected that the cover 7 is opened, the current position XT of the carriage 5 is stored into the current-position momory RA2 in a RAM27. Then, a carriage motor 34 is again driven to move the carriage 5 to a stop position ST previously stored in the stop position memory RA3 in the RAM27, namely, a central position. When the movement of the carriage 5 to the stop position ST is finished, a current-controlling signal C at a low level is impressed on an input terminal of a carriage motor driving circuit 35. In this condition, since a position-holding current is being passed to the motor 34, the carriage 5 can not be manually moved to the left or light. |
