PURPOSE:To inspect the compliance of pungent odor or the like of isopropyl alcohol with the standard by a method wherein isopropyl alcohol is diluted with water, shaked adequately and then, the pattern of the peak is used in a gas chromatogram chart obtained by gas chromatography of the vapor phase thereof. CONSTITUTION:When isopropyl alcohol is diluted with water, the ratio of isopropyl alcohol: Water is preferably about 100:200-900 (capacity). Then, the mixture is shaked thoroughly in a mechanical or manual manner and the vapor phase thereof undergoes a chromatography. The identification of material for respective peaks is very difficult but there is no probelm in the judgement on the compliance of odor with the standard as the pattern of peak can be judged sufficiently. On the other hand, in a gas chromatorgram chart which would be obtained by chromatography of isopropyl alcohol as intact, the presence of offensive and pungent odor can not be distinguished.
