PURPOSE:To provide smooth start and braking stop by controlling the speed change ratio of a continuously varible mechanism such that the speed change ratio is reduced only in starting a vehicle and increased only in braking stop. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle is stopped under the idle running, an electric rotary machine 31 is controlled by a control unit 30 according to the outputs of a throttle valve opening sensor 32 and a vehicle speed sensor 33, and a speed change ring 13 is set to the L side maximum position through a transmission 14 so that an output transmitting plate 10 of a continuously variable transmission mechanism 8 is maintained under the non-rotatable condition. Next, when the vehicle is started, as a throttle valve 2 is opened by an accelerator means, the speed change ring 13 is shifted to the H side. And then, the speed change ratio of said mechanism 8 is controlled such that it is reduced only in at least starting the vehicle and enlarged only in braking stop of the vehicle respectively to provide smooth start while eliminating unconfortable feeling due to the engine brake action. |
