PURPOSE:To prepare the titled porous glass parent material having superior quality by feeding gaseous starting materials for the glass to a flame hydrolysis zone with a fixed feeding pressure through a buffer tank. CONSTITUTION:Starting materials for glass such as Si component and doping material, etc. are contained individually in separated closed vessels held at specified temps. and are taken out with specified flow rates by allowing them to be carried by an inert carrier gas introduced from each bubbler provided to each vessel. The gas is then introduced into a buffer tank having 100-10,000 times inside volume basing on the sum of the feeding flow rate per sec of the carrier gases contg. each component of the starting materials. The pressure of the buffer tank is adjusted to a fixed feed pressure, and the gas is then fed to a burner in a flame hydrolysis reaction zone to form the porous glass parent material. By this method, laminar fluctuation of refractive index of the parent material caused by the flare of flame is prevented. |
