Filler composition, process for the preparation thereof, and dental reconstruction material containing this composition

Filler compositions are described which are suitable as additives to organic resins and rubber grades for increasing their properties, for example compressive strength, hardness and chemical resistance. The pulverulent filler compositions contain, on the surface of inorganic filler, the product of incomplete monomer polymerisation initiated by free radicals. The monomers are acrylates or methacrylates of polyhydric alcohols, and they contain at least three ethylenically unsaturated groups per molecule. In the preparation of the filler compositions, the corresponding monomers are pre-cured by incomplete polymerisation in the presence of the inorganic filler using an initiator which supplies free radicals, and the resultant material is ground to give a powder. Materials for dental reconstruction which contain these pulverulent filler compositions and vinyl compounds as components have good compressive strength and good chemical resistance after polymerisation of the vinyl compounds.
