The invention relates to a system for transmitting digital information on optical fibre. The emitter includes photoemitter diodes 11, 12 emitting optical signals of respective wavelengths which represent the various states of the information to be transmitted, and means 16 of multiplexing these optical signals. At the reception end, after demultiplexing the wavelengths transmitted by the fibre 30, the former are detected by photodetector diodes 22, 23 delivering electrical signals representing the various states of the information. Application to high-throughput digital transmissions.
