The invention relates to a technology of liquid crystal devices. The method of the invention applies to a device comprising a set of field-effect transistors each having a gate 34 and first and second terminals 18, 21, a first substrate 30 bearing a set of image element electrodes 22, each of them being connected to the first terminal of a respective transistor, a second substrate 3a bearing counter-electrodes 31 situated opposite the image element electrodes, and a ferroelectric liquid crystal 33 which exhibits two stable orientation states and which is interposed between the two substrates.
