The container has a tube (7) which is sealed gas-tightly on both sides with screwed-in closure pieces (1, 10). In the tube (7) are a gas cartridge (6) and an insertion tube (8) with a substance bearer (17). A pin (5) which is arranged at the screwed-in end of the one closure piece (1) engages in the valve aperture of the gas cartridge (6). The tube (7) is dimensioned such that, when the other closure piece (10) is screwed in, the gas cartridge (6) filled with a protective gas is pushed against the pin (5), and the valve is thus opened. The escaping gas displaces the air in the container which passes through a non-return valve (11) into the surrounding atmosphere. <IMAGE>
