PURPOSE:To ensure that a thermal head is hardly abraded and prevent paper dusts from being generated, by a method wherein a heat-insulating layer on a substrate is provided in the shape of being partially projected from the substrate, a heating part is provided on the heat-insulating layer, and printing is conducted by operating the heating part to generate heat while pressing it against a platen. CONSTITUTION:The thermal head 1-1 comprises a glaze layer 10 as the heat-insulating layer which is partially projected from the surface of the substrate, and a resistor layer 3 and pattern layers 4, 4' are so provided that a heating resistor 3b is provided on the glaze layer 10 in the form of being projected from a non- heating surface of the thermal head. The glaze layer 10 is provided only at a part corresponding to the resistor 3b of the resistor layer 3. Since only a heating projected part 11 projected by the presence of the partial glaze 10 is brought into contact with the surface of a recording paper 7 and generates heat, favorable printing with uniform printed density can be performed. Accordingly, the pressure for pressing the thermal head against the platen can be reduced, and the head is hardly abraded. In addition, the paper will not be shaved by edges of the head. |
