PURPOSE:To reduce the overall width of a thermal printer and silently open and close a thermal head, by a construction wherein a take-up reel is disposed in the vicinity of an end of a platen, and a payout reel is fitted to a carrier. CONSTITUTION:The take-up reel 11 is provided at an end of the platen 1, thereby reducing the overall width of the printer, while the payout reel 25 requiring no power for taking up a ribbon is fitted to the carrier 4, thereby reducing the size and the weight of the carrier 4. Operations of a clamping part 31 and the opening and closing actions of the thermal head 19 are controlled by a cam 37 driven by a single motor 36, thereby reducing noise and obtaining a power-conserving effect. |
