PURPOSE:The titled copolymer having improved properties such as weather resistance, etc., improved oil resistance, soft rubber properties, and high chlorine content, obtained by chlorinating an ethylenic copolymer resin containing ethylene and nonconjugated diene at high temperature by an aqueous suspension method. CONSTITUTION:An ethylenic copolymer resin containing at least ethylene and a nonconjugated diene (e.g., vinylnorbornene, ethylidene-norbornene, 1,4-hexadiene, etc.) as copolymer components is chlorinated at a high temperature of >=100 deg.C by an aqueous suspension method, to give the desired copolymer having 5- 50% chlorine content and preferably about 30-80 Mooney viscosity. The ethylenic copolymer resin, for example, is obtained by ionic polymerization method using both a solid catalytic component containing Mg and Ti and an organoaluminum compound and the resin has preferbly >=100 deg.C maximum peak temperature by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
