A chlorosilane disproportioning catalyst is described. It comprises a tertiary amine of the formula <IMAGE> in which R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon group and the sum of the carbon atoms in the three aliphatic hydrocarbon groups R is 12 or more, and a tertiary amine hydrochloride of the formula <IMAGE> in which R has the meaning stated.
