A guide bar for chains of piste vehicles is proposed, which bar serves as a force transmitting element between a star-shaped drive or running wheel and a caterpillar web. In order to fulfil the high requirements relating to rigidity and to make the structure installation-friendly, a component which is at the same time positively engaging and frictionally engaging is provided for force transmission, the force transmission taking place over the entire structure. For this purpose, the base face of the U-shaped bar is, in turn, constructed with a U-shaped cross-section in order to embrace the caterpillar web over a large planar area.
