PURPOSE:To obtain fibrous alkali metal titanate large in aspect ratio without bend of fiber in an opening process by spray-drying slurry consisting of titanium source comp. and oxygen-contg. alkali metal and thereafter calcining the slurry at specified temp. CONSTITUTION:Titanium source comp. such as titanium oxide and rutile ore is mixed with oxygen-contg. alkali metal comp. such as KOH so that the molar ratio of TiO2/M2O is regulated to about 3-3.5. After the slurry of said mixture is spray-dried and granulated, the granules are calcined at 900-1,300 deg.C. the reaction product is granulated and thrown in water and subjected to an opening treatment to obtain fibrous alkali metal titanate. The fibrous alkali metal titanate has high strength and utilized as plastic reinforcing material, filter medium and pigment or the like.
