PURPOSE:To provide an electrophotographic sensitive body having high sensitivity and low residual potential, undergoing no change in the characteristics even after repeated use, and showing superior durability by incorporating an azo compound having stability to heat and light and superior carrier generating capacity. CONSTITUTION:An azo compound represented by general formula I (where A is a bivalent residue bonding to azo forming N atoms through C atoms, X is a naphthalene reing, a carbazol ring, a benzofuran ring or a substitution product thereof, and each of R1 and R2 is H, alkyl which may have a substituent, phenyl which may have a substituent, halogen, nitro or furyl) generates charge carrier with very high efficiency when the compound absorbs light. The generated carrier may be transferred with the azo compound as a medium, but it is preferable that the carrier is transferred with a known charge transferring substance as a medium. Charge transferring substances are generally classified into two kinds, electron and hole transferring substances. Both the substances can be used in the photosensitive layer of an electrophotographic sensitive body of this invention. |
