PURPOSE:To attain reproduction with no problem even with picture signals recorded by an analog system by using a discriminating means which decides whether the recorded picture signals are equal to digital or analog signals and a switch means which actuates selectively a digital recording/reproducing circuit and an analog reproducing circuit based on the result of discrimination of said discriminating means. CONSTITUTION:A discriminating circuit 27 decides whether the picture signals recorded on a magnetic tape 1 are equal to digital or analog signals. For instance, a mechanical identifying means for presence or absence of a pawl or an optical identifying means for a mark containing an optical reflector is set to the case of a tape cassette. In such a case, these identifying means are detected by a sensor 28 and said decision is carried out with the output of the sensor 28. When the picture signals recorded on the tape 1 are decided as digital signals by the circuit 27, switches 14, 20 and 24 are changed toward solid lines respectively and then toward dotted lines when the analog signals are decided. |
