A high-speed size press, which has a pair of rolls revolving in reverse directions to form a coating nip in the middle of the press, has a device for guiding a paper-web through the nip and one for transporting sufficient sizing constitutent. The constitutent forms a pond on the nip extending to the sides of the paper web. There is a flexible baffle that is long enough to protect the pond from the translational energy resulting from the surface movement of the roll.
