PURPOSE:To achieve the optimal swirl ratio continuously, in an internal-combustion engine formed with a volute chamber by bending the end of an intake port, by providing a swirl guide formed with a deflection nozzle at the downstream end section rotatably near the end of the intake port. CONSTITUTION:Upon operation of engine, air will flow through an intake port into the combustion chamber. When the air flow speed in the intake port 2 is low, a step motor 10 will rotate a swirl guide 7 on the basis of a control signal from a controller 16 to direct a deflection nozzle 6 toward the outside of the curvature of the intake port 2. Consequently, air will flow from the outside of the curvature of the intake port 2 into a volute chamber 5 to intensify the swirling of air in said chamber 5 thus to intensify the swirl in the combustion chamber. While a portion of air will cause disturbance in the downstream of the deflection nozzle 6 and produce vortex in the combustion chamber through the volute chamber 5 resulting in the improvement of mixing of the air and fuel in the combustion chamber. |
