PURPOSE:To enable both-side copying selected without difficulty, and economical single-side copying requiring a small storage space, and deciding a single-side copying mode and a both-side copying mode, and priority of selection of the kind of paper to be used from a combination of signals sent from a paper thickness signal producing means and a section for designating single or both-side copying. CONSTITUTION:The controller of a copying machine receives signals sent from a section for designating a single-or both-side copying, a so-called copying mode designating section, and information on light transmittance of recording papers sent from photocoupler units P and P, i.e., paper thickness information. The presence and arrangement of recording papers, thick or thin, can be identified in accordance with memory storing specified transmittances of the papers. When a copying button is operated in such a state, and a both-side copying mode is designated, and a thick recording paper 110 is detected, the output of said controller actuates through a control device a paper feed roller 13 to start motion, and the thick recording paper 110 is fed from a paper feed cassette 10 to a register roller 14 to execute both side copying. |
