5-Methoxy 2-(((4-methoxy 3,5-dimethyl 2-pyridinyl)methyl) sulphinyl) benzimidazole is made by (a) reaction of 2-chloro 5-methoxy benzimidazole with 2-mercapto-methyl 3,5-dimethyl 4-methoxy pyridine in organic solvent, e.g. ethanol, in presence of KOH, at b. pt.; and (b) oxidn. of the prod. by treatment with m-chloro perbenzoic acid in chloroform at 0-20 deg. C.
