PRODUCTION OF TITANIUM CLAD STAINLESS STEEL MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To obtain a titanium clad stainless steel material having extremely good joint strength and workability by interposing a spacer between a base metal consisting of a stainless steel and a cladding metal consisting of a titanium-base metal, assembling a clad stock and subjecting the material to hot rolling by a roll method. CONSTITUTION:A spacer consisting of about several mm. diameter thin wire, or coarse meshed wire net or the like consisting preferably of the same material as a base metal is interposed between the base metal consisting of a ferritic stainless steel or martensitic stainless steel and a cladding metal consisting of titanium or titanium alloy and a clad stock is assembled. The material is hot rolled by an ordinary roll method and is thus joined. The titanium clad stainless steel material having no brittle diffusion transition phase in the cladding metal and having extremely good joint strength and workability is stably produced by the above-mentioned method.
