PURPOSE:To prevent an oxidation catalyst body from being cooled from the outside, to maintain a uniform heat throughout the whole surface of the oxidation catalyst body, and to prevent slip of fuel as much as possible, by a method wherein an outer peripheral frame in contact with the oxidation catalyst body is heated by an electric heater. CONSTITUTION:Fuel gas is uniformly dispersed through a fuel dispersion pipe 10, flows through a diffusion mat 4 and an oxidation catalyst body 1, and is ignited at its surface, and flame is formed throughout the whole surface. After several tens seconds elapsed, the oxidation catalyst body 1 itself is heated by the flame, and is naturally shifted to catalyst combustion. During shifting to catalyst combustion, a surface heater 9 is energized, an outer peripheral frame 3 itself is heated, and the outer peripheral part 2, in contact with the outer peripheral frame, of the oxidation catalyst body 1 is also heated. When no surface heater 9 exists, the heat in the outer peripheral part 2 of the oxidation catalyst body 1 is more apt to escape to the outside as compared with the central part 2, and slip of fuel gas is susceptible to occur. However, location of the surface heater 9 causes almost uniformization of the temperature of the oxidation catalyst body 1, and fairly decreases slip of the fuel gas. |
