The invention relates to the preparation of propylene oligomers having 21 to 48 carbon atoms per molecule, by a process in which (a) in a reaction zone, propylene is brought into contact with a hydrogen fluoride catalyst, (b) the temperature in the reaction zone is kept between approx. 20 and -30 DEG C, and (c) a pressure in the reaction zone of between approx. 0 and 28 bar is maintained.
