PURPOSE:To prevent breakout and to enable high-speed casting by using specific walking segments for suitable segments of a route for conveying a steel ingot extending downward from a mold. CONSTITUTION:A route for conveying a steel ingot is constituted of segments 71-718. Roll segments are used for the segments 72, 79, 710 as in the prior art and walking segments are used for all of the remaining segments. The 1st, 2nd blocks 8, 9 which are arranged alternately into a large number along the direction orthogonal with the drawing direction (a) of an ingot 1 and a driving mechanism to move these blocks in the cycle consisting of contact A movement B spacing C return D alternately with respect to the ingot 1 are provided to the respective walking segments. The ingot 1 drawn from a mold 6 is continuously drawn by repetition of the above-described motion of the blocks 8, 9. Since the ingot 1 is alternately supported at the surfaces by the blocks 8, 9, the ingot hardly bulges as creep deformation and even if the bulging arises, the extent thereof is extremely small. |
