PURPOSE:To obtain in good yields the titled resin which can be cured at room temperature in good workability without any monomer as a crosslinking agent, by reacting a specified unsaturated polyester obtained by a specified production process with a polyisocyanate. CONSTITUTION:The titled resin (e.g., a resin of formula II) is produced by reacting an unsaturated polyester having an OH group and a polymerizable unsaturated bond in the molecule (e.g., a compound of formula I ), obtained by reacting an (un)saturated monoepoxy compound (e.g., propylene oxide) with a mixture containing an alpha,beta-unsaturated monobasic acid [e.g., (meth)acrylic acid] and a polybasic acid anhydride (e.g., phthalic anhydride) with a polyisocyanate reactive with the hydroxyl group of this compound (e.g., 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate). This resin can be cured without or with a small amount of a vinyl monomer and is suitable for a variety of applications such as paints, adhesives, castings, and fiber-reinforced plastics.
