PURPOSE:To produce stably a curable resin having a side chain comprising an unsaturated group bonded thereto through a urethane bond, by reacting a polymer containing a hydroxyl group in the side chain with a specified unsaturated monoisocyanate. CONSTITUTION:A polymer containing a hydroxyl group in the side chain (e.g., 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/methyl methacrylate copolymer) is reacted with an unsaturated monoisocyanate obtained by reacting 1mol of a diisocyanate (e.g., 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate) with 1-1.8mol of an unsaturated monoalcohol (e.g., allyl alcohol). In this way, it is possible to produce a curable resin having a side chain comprising an unsaturated group bonded thereto through a urethane bond, suited for use in paints, etc., without causing gelation of the resin during production.
