Process for decontaminating basic uraniferous solutions from uranium and radium by addition of an iron or aluminium salt

Process for decontamination and adjustment of the pH of uraniferous solutions to make them compatible with the natural environment into which they are liable to be discharged. This process is characterised in that the solutions which have an initial pH of approximately 6.5 to approximately 9 and contain from approximately 1 to approximately 100 mg/l of uranium have added to them an aluminium salt or an iron salt, such as aluminium sulphate, in sufficient quantity for the final pH to be from approximately 5.5 to approximately 8.5 and for at least 90 % of the uranium initially present in the solution to be precipitated, coagulated and adsorbed and for the remaining uranium content in the final solution obtained to be equal to or lower than approximately 1.8 mg/l.
