The subject of the invention relates to the technical field of the keeping of animals, in particular to means for feeding them. The feeder is noteworthy in that it comprises a lower housing 1 having at least one lateral opening 1c for the animal to insert its head, and a grain silo 3 which is fitted to the housing. Means 5-8 for guiding the grain G are provided in the silo or housing, cooperating with a hollow column 6 for the controlled automatic release of the grain in proportion as the animal removes it from the base of the column.
