Process for the manufacture of a structural element such as a brick to be trimmed. The process of manufacture according to the invention is essentially characterised in that it consists in mixing, in a homogeneous manner and in determined proportions by volume, an earth which is suitable for being fired and a pulverulent or liquid adjuvant forming cavities of small dimensions in the product before or during a firing operation, in extruding the mix through a die under vacuum conditions determined as a function of the composition of the earth and of the nature and quantity of the adjuvant, in drying the product originating from the extrusion, and in firing the said product at a temperature determined as a function of the extrusion vacuum conditions, of the earth composition and of the nature and quantity of the adjuvant.
