PURPOSE:To discriminate types of tapes more than fives and to eliminate a sense of incompatibility in use by providing a discrimination part for detecting an erroneous erasion and that for discriminating types of tapes in accordance with the presence or absence of a recessed part and by meeting them. CONSTITUTION:Erroneous erasion detection discrminating parts 11a and 11b are formed over upper and lower halves 8 and 9, detects the presence or absense of a recessed part in accordance with that of a detection piece 14, and decides possibility of recording. Discrimination parts 22a, 33a, 33b and 22b and those 12a, 13a, 13b and 12b are arranged opposite to the upper and lower halves, respectively. Detectors 22c, 33c, 33cc and 22cc discriminate the corresponding discrimination parts. Since a part for discriminating types of tapes is provided so that it can be faced a couple 7a, it can discriminate types of tapes more than five. The conventional detector can be used as it is, and reliability of actions can be enhanced. Moreover the cost can be reduced and a sense of incompatibility can be decreased in use. Since the discriminating part is matched to the type of a tape, it can be decided by visually inspecting the rear side of a cassette.
