PURPOSE:To enhance the stability by absorbing an overvoltage due to the inductance at a power source side by a filter capacitor, and suppressing the current change rate of a discharging current of the capacitor by a reactor, thereby suppressing an overcurrent and an overvoltage. CONSTITUTION:A filter circuit for absorbing the overvoltage of a power source side when a gate turn OFF thyristor (GTO) is chopped has only capacitors CF1- CF3. When the current change rates of the discharging currents from the capacitors CF1-CF3 are suppressed, and reactors LGU, LGV, LGW for suppressing the variations in the voltage between the anode and the cathode of a thyristor of blocking state are simultaneously connected in series with the GTOs, respectively. The overvoltages generated from the reactors LGU, LGV, LGW are constructed to be absorbed by a snubber circuit.
