In a luminaire housing made from plastic for tubular fluorescent lamps, use is made of two spring clips (6) instead of conventional fastening means, such as screws, serrated lock washers and nuts, in order to reduce the installation costs arising when mounting the ballast (3). For this purpose, lugs (5) of rectangular cross-section are provided on the device support (1) of the luminaire housing. The spring clip (6), which is produced as a stamped bent part, has a flat limb on one side of which a claw (9) is arranged. The limb contains a cutout which is matched to the contour of the lug (5) and extends as far as over the bent edge (13) forming the start of the claw (9). A pressing device is used to push the spring clips (6) with their cutouts over the lugs (5) until their claws (9) firmly press the retaining lugs (4) of the ballast (3) against bearing surfaces of the device support (1). The cutout edges situated in the regions of the claws are locked in this case against the lugs (5) and thus effect a permanent spring pressure. <IMAGE>
