PURPOSE:To provide the titled Al alloy consisting of specified amounts of Zn, Mg, Cu, Cr and Zr, regulated amounts of Si and Fe, and the balance Al and having high surface quality and superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking in the arc weld zone. CONSTITUTION:This Al alloy for the frame of a motorcycle consists of, by weight, 3-8% Zn, 0.4-1.8% Mg, 0.05-0.4% Cu, 0.03-0.12% Cr, 0.05-0.4% Zr, <=0.1% Si, <=0.15% Fe and the balance Al with inevitable impurities. The alloy may contain 0.03-0.3% Zr and 0.05-0.6% Mn, 0.05-0.3% Zr and 0.001-0.1% Ti and/or <=0.05% B, or 0.05-0.3% Zr, 0.05-0.6% Mn and 0.001-0.1% Ti and/or <=0.05% B in place of 0.05-0.4% Zr. The alloy has high surface quality after extrusion and superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
