PURPOSE:To produce a p-substituted halogenated benzene derivative, selectively, by the vapor-phase halogenation of benzene and/or its derivative in the presence of a zeolite catalyst having a specific composition, structure and metallic cations. CONSTITUTION:A p-substituted halogenated benzene derivative such as p-dichlorobenzene, etc. useful as an insecticide, especially 1,4-dihalogenated benzene having high industrial value, is produced in high yield and selectivity, by halogenating benzene and/or a benzene derivative in vapor phase, using a catalyst comprising an offretite-erionite zeolite having the components and composition of formula (M is one or more metallic cations selected from K, Rb, Ce, Ca, Sr and Ba; a=1.0+ or -0.3; b=5-10; n is atomic valence of M) in terms of the molar number of the oxide, and having the powder X-ray diffraction pattern of the table. |
