A pneumatic suction cup 2 with a magnetically nonpermeable wall 3 is solidly surrounded by a permanent magnet 5 with north N and south S poles displaced by the ferromagnetic shell of the gripper 1 towards an air gap and in which the magnetic fields produced by the permanent magnet 5 are concentrated in order to confine a liquid with magnetic properties and thus form a liquid sealing skirt 12 which adapts to the profile of the gripping surface of the object 15 to be lifted up. Application: handling of objects with smooth, rugged, striated or grooved gripping surfaces of low weight. <IMAGE>
