PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect an overlap of two papers among papers of several kinds with use of a single photosensor, by setting threshold values of the amount of transmission light, classified by the kinds of papers so that the overlap of two papers which are transferred are detected with the use of a threshold value appropriate to the kind of the associated papers. CONSTITUTION:In the case of application to a banknote pay-out device, before the start of a banknote feed-out device in which a predetermined kind of banknotes are stored, a reference value for judging an overlap of two papers of banknotes is read out from a memory 27 and is delivered as a two-paper-overlap reference voltage V2 to a comparator 23. Then, the feed-out device of the banknotes is initiated, and judgement on the output of the comparator 23 is initiated in accordance with an H signal which is delivered from a comparator 21 when the output of a light receiving unit 4a in an optical type two-paper overlap detector 4 which is amplified by an amplifier 20 lowers below a predetermined value. Further, when the level of the output of the comparator 23 is high, the overlap of two banknotes is determined, and therefore, a distributing flapper is driven in accordance with the result of the determination to retrieve the banknotes into a retrieving box. |
