PURPOSE:To decrease the number of correction unable error patterns by making use of a bit corresponding to an error flag showing the presence or absence of a code error as well as a bit corresponding to data. CONSTITUTION:The error detection of X direction is carried out over an entire code block and then the error correction of Y direction is carried out over the entire code block. Then the error detection of X direction is carried out again, and the error correction of Z direction is carried out over the entire code block. These correction processings are carried out J times, and the error detection of X direction is carried out once more to finish corrections. In this system, the value of an error flag showing the presence or absence of an error is decided by the error position information obtained from another error correction code and the result of detection of an error detection code before an error correction is carried out. Thus it is possible to correct errors after addition of an accurate error flag. |
