NEW MATERIAL:The human-originated lectin having the following characteristics. Molecular weight of the subunit, 13,800+ or -500; isoelectric point, 5.1; saccharide specificity, bonds with a compound having galactose residue; number of mercapto group, one per 1 subunit; stable pH range, 6-8; inhibited by SH-reagent; metal dependency, none. USE:Remedy for human bulbospinal paralysis, and activating agent for leukocyte and other cells. PREPARATION:Human placenta and/or human funis are ground in an aqueous solution of a salt containing a protein-protecting agent (e.g. EDTA). The ground suspension is centrifuged, and the resultant cell fragments are extracted with a solution obtained by adding a compound having galactose residue to the above salt solution containing the protein protecting agent. The extract is purified by affinity chromatography, etc. to obtain the objective human-originated lectin. |
