PURPOSE:To produce the titled substance useful as an intermediate of various chemicals such as pharmaceuticals, surfactants, etc., extremely smoothly, in high purity, by using a perfluoroalkyl iodide as a starting material, and reacting the compound with bromine in the presence of a radical initiator. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formula I or formula II can be produced by reacting the perfluoroalkyl iodide of formula CnF2n+1I or I(CF2)mI (n is 6-11; m is 4-8) with bromine in the presence of a radical initiator at about 40-90 deg.C. The reaction is carried out usually by charging the iodide and bromine in a flask, heating the content, and adding a radical initiator dropwise to the flask. The radical initiator is e.g. acetylcyclohexylsulfonyl peroxide, etc., and its amount is preferably about 5-50wt% based on the iodide used as the starting material. The amount of bromine is preferably about 1-3mol per 1mol of CnF2n+1I, or about 2-4mol per 1mol of I(CF2)mI.
