An ironing board for steam ironing is provided, having a perforated carrier plate (1), an ironing support (4) covering the carrier plate at least partially on one side, and an intermediate layer (3) between the carrier plate (1) and the ironing support (4), with passage orifices (8) for the steam to be sucked off from the ironing support. So that the ironing support (4) remains dry, even during the sucking-off operation, the thickness of the intermediate layer (3) and/or the cross-section of the passage orifices (8) is selected in such a way that a mutual contact of the ironing support (4) and carrier plate (1) is avoided. <IMAGE>
