PURPOSE:To prevent the adhesion of a gel layer to the surface of a filter membrane, by generating turbulent flow in a liquid prior to filtering by providing unevenness to the wall surface opposed to a filter membrane. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of plates 3, each of which has flowline forming recessed parts 1 for a liquid before filtering provided to the surface thereof and flowline forming recessed parts 2 for a filtrate provided to the back surface thereof, are laminated so as to hold filter membranes therebetween in an extensible state to constitute a membrane separation apparatus such as a plate-and- frame type ultrafiltration apparatus. Unevenness such as corrugated recessed grooves 5 is provided to the wall surface, opposed to each filter membrane 4, of flowline forming recessed parts 1 for the liquid before filtering. Turbulent flow is generated in the liquid flowing through the flowline forming recessed parts 1 for the liquid before filtering and the adhesion of a gel layer to the surface of each filter membrane 4 is made negative to prevent the adhesion of the gel layer. The shape of unevenness may be an oblique grid like grooves, ribs or wart like projections.
