PURPOSE:To enable to print with low energy and transfer a coloring material image with high density multiple times, by a method wherein heating is conducted after providing an intermediate layer by coating, and after providing a coloring agent layer by coating, heating is conducted at a temperature not lower than the melting point or softening point of a resin contained in the intermediate layer. CONSTITUTION:The intermediate laye comprising a resin is provided on the base, followed by heating. Then, a coloring material layer is provided on the intermediate layer by coating, and heating is conducted at a temperature not lower than the melting or softening point of the resin in the intermediate layer to obtain a thermal transfer recording medium. The resin constituting the intermediate layer may be any of resins which have high adhesion to the base and the coloring meaterial layer, e.g., a polyamide resin or a polyester resin. The heat-fusible coloring material layer consists mainly of a low melting point substance, a coloring agent and a softening agent. The coloring agent can be selected from direct dyes, acidic dyes, basic dyes, disperse dyes, oil-solubel dyes and the like. |
