PURPOSE:To obtain an error processing method of a data at restoration in which deterioration of picture quality is decreased even in a picture having a large density change if an error takes place by replacing a line not restored into a forecast value so as to form a restored data. CONSTITUTION:When no error exists in a compressed data, a compression data in an RL code is decoded by an RL coding/decoding circuit 107 and a forecast error signal 11 is generated. Further, a forecast value of a noted picture element X is outputted from a forecasting device 112, compared with the forecast error signal 11 and a restored picture signal is stored in a restored line memory 105. If an error is detected in the compressed data, the RL coding/decoding circuit 107 informs it to an error processing control circuit 108 so as to stop the restoration of a two-dimension compression data. Then the error processing circuit switches multiplexers 113-115 to the position of a forecast signal 16, forecast is attained sequentially at each picture element and the forecast signal is outputted as a picture data 20 via the multiplexer 113.
