The spring-loaded umbrella deploys automatically upon applying pressure to a push-button (16), and has the spring (50) located between a force-fitted cap (11) and the sliding control-tube (25). The mounting of the spring (50) is, thus, simplified and longevity promoted. The cap (11) fixes to the top of the mast (10), has an angular housing for the compressed spring (50), and provides an enlarged bellmouth (44). The tube (25) thickens at the top to support the bases of the ribs (21), and increases in dia. at the base to form a handle (27). The handle contains a separate sliding sleeve (28) which has a series of holes (26) at longitudinal intervals. A recoil sprung (15) lever (19) fits in the base of the mast, has counter-projecting lugs (13, 14) at the top and mid points respectively, and projects at the base to form a push-button (16).
