Classes 120(2) and 120(3) [Also in Group XXXV] In coil winding apparatus a first member holding a device for guiding a material to the point where it is wound to form a coil, is constrained to a straight movement parallel to the axis of the coil and is arranged to be reciprocated by a similarly constrained second member through the intermediary of a lever, a support for the fulcrum of the lever being held by a setting mechanism allowing adjustment of the location of the fulcrum along a line parallel to the axis of the lever and thereby adjustment of the ratio of the lever arms and of the rciprocating movements of the two members. In the arrangement shown motor 1 drives the winding shaft 5 through belt 2 and a drive is taken from shaft 5 by shaft 7, gear box 8 and shaft 9 to cam 10. The rotation of cam 10 imparts a reciprocating motion to arm 11 through followers 12 and 13, the latter being spring urged against the cam. The arm 11 is pivoted to a lever 18, to the other end of which is pivotedly connected a further arm 17 which reciprocates a support member 30 carrying a guide 31 and adhesive application means 32. The fulcrum of lever 18 is at the end of a pivotal mounting 23 which is vertically adjustable by screw 26 rotatable by handle 27 and having a graduated dial 28 so that by altering the position of the fulcrum and thereby the relative lengths of the two parts of lever 18 the length of the traverse of the support 30 can be varied. The coil is wound on a square former 34 the corners of which are chamfered and serrated, 35, such that the first layer of wire is uniformly spaced along the former. The second layer is wound into the grooves formed between the turns of the first layer and so on.</p> |
